簡介：丁善璽編導的本片，繼《英烈千秋》后，敘述1937年8月13日日寇侵略上海，中國88師524團團長謝晉元，為牽制日軍，掩護中國軍隊后撤，率領480青年軍官，號稱八百壯士，固守四行倉庫，達三個月之久。軍人英勇殺敵，女童子軍冒著生命危險給守軍輸送食物、醫藥，當牽制任務完成，守軍越過蘇州橋后撤。本片的格局手法與《英烈千秋》完全不同，只限于幾成孤島上海的蘇州河畔的四行倉庫，數百中國軍人與包圍的日軍進行陣地戰。導演根據史實，利用四行倉庫周圍有英法租界，蘇州河對面又是國統區，蘇州河兩岸戰爭與和平不同環境造成的戲劇沖突，表現了愛國軍隊抗擊侵略者英勇無畏的精神，和上海人民聲援國民黨守軍的時代氣氛。導演把握住雙方沖突的因素，安排叢生的險象，利用國軍在槍林彈雨下游過蘇州河，民眾都為軍人擔心的正反打鏡頭蒙太奇剪接手法，形成扣人心弦的場面，把劇情推向高潮。本事件曾于1938年搬上銀幕，是默片，由陽翰笙編劇，應云衛導演，袁牧之、陳波兒主演，是抗戰時期“大后方電影”中較為著名的一部，其中女童子軍冒死為壯士們送國旗的細節，具有極為悲壯的感染力。影片在當時的大后方及香港極為轟動，而且在東南亞甚至西歐都得到熱烈反響。
